Merlin is a young monster who hates being mean and cannot frighten anyone the way other monsters do. He squeaks instead of growling, has no pointy teeth, and is teased for being different. Then he meets Edward, a small, shy boy who also knows what it feels like to be picked on. Their unexpected friendship is tested when Merlin’s angry older brother discovers that he has befriended a human.
