In 1978, Kansas farmer Tom Prescott’s wife and daughter disappear, and the police have no answers. The community initially rallies around him, but rumors soon turn the grieving husband into a murder suspect. Deputy Randy Bontrager must choose between his duty and loyalty to his longtime friend, while Kansas Bureau of Investigation agent Reggie King—the first Black woman officer on the high plains—takes on her first murder investigation. As evidence from other disappearances begins pointing toward Tom, all three are pulled into the question haunting the region: is a serial killer loose, and is Tom Prescott responsible?
